Hi David,

The Meeks family is quite large. I came by the info I have as I was researching my Mayes family. I found that whenever I came across a Mayes there was usually a Meeks nearby (or vice versa). Most people start with the census. Is this your grandfather’s family on the 1930 census in Hays County?

Lon B born in NM, everyone else seems to have been born in TX.

I have come across more than one Alonzo, Meeks and Mayes. Seems to have been a family name.

I had heard of this site and had to check it out. I am a decendant of Suddeth Meeks. My Grandfather was Alonzo Alden Meeks (Lon). My Father was Lon Baker Meeks. I live in Carlsbad New Mexico Now but grew up in Wimberley and San Marcos Texas. I am wanting to search for more of our history, please give me advise. Thank You. David R. Meeks

I also have family buried there at Butler Cemetery. From my understanding, the land belonged to William Pitt Smith and his son, Thomas Albert Smith, my direct ancestors. I am hoping, at some point, to have access to visit the cemetery. I understand also, that either Thomas Albert’s or William Pitt’s headstone is missing, but is believed to be buried there.

A belated welcome back to blogging. I checked in often during the mid-year, but nothing was up. I saw on my stats page a click-through from one of your earlier posts and was delighted to see that you had returned.

I’ve regretfully only captured a quick glimpse of a red cardinal just before Thanksgiving. I haven’t seen another bringer of winter since then.
