There seem to many motivations for and approaches to genealogical research. Some are interested in lineage, some a particular surname. My interest is in history. I think this kind of research is particularly effective for giving history a “face,” fleshing out the story and making it come alive. My main method is the “shotgun” approach which can be a bit overwhelming at times. It is rewarding when you find information you might have overlooked with a more focused approach.
